Now you’ll get the driving license test results and your smart-card print status via SMS on your phone. Thanks to the initiation between the Government of Nepal, Department of Transport Management (DoTM) and Sparrow SMS. It’s the same entity that issues the driving license.

Recently, there was a provision for registering for driving licenses in Nepal online. To check result for written test, users have to type ‘WT Application ID number’ and Send it to 33001. Similarly, to check smart driving license print status, users have to type ‘LC Application ID Number’ and Send it to 33001.

This new system launch took place during a ceremony held at DoTM head office, Manbhawan, Kathmandu in which the Director General of DoTM, Lawanya Kumar Dhakal and the Managing Director of Sparrow SMS, Arvind Sah signed the agreement.

DoTM Director General Dhakal also conveyed his confidence stating that the use of ICT will bring efficiency from informing license aspirant about their driving license test results as well as license print status.

DoTM is distributing the smart driving license to the people since December 2015. The smart driving license comprises electronic chips that contain the driver’s identity. One who passes the written exam and completed the trial of driving license test becomes eligible to receive a smart card from DoTM.

The addition of the SMS system is a support to the online system because now the license aspirants will not have to visit DoTM office in order to see the result or license print status thereby which ends long queues in transportation offices for the sake of simple information.

How to check the status?

To get any information, all you need to do now is send the SMS to 33001, which will cost you Rs. 5 only.

Similarly, in order to check the written test result, you need to type ‘WT <space> [Application ID number]’ and send it to 33001.

To check the smart driving license print status, you need to type ‘LC <space> [Application ID Number]’ and send it to 33001.

Statistics show that around 3,000 users apply for the smart driving license every working day.
